Business challenges
As part of its ambitious 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, Paradores de Turismo was accelerating its evolution into a fully data-driven organization. The primary goal was clear: achieve a Customer 360° View to personalize the hospitality experience. To do so, Paradores was transitioning from a traditional on-premise infrastructure to a hyperscale Cloud architecture on AWS — more scalable, flexible, and future-ready.
In this context, the organization required a data governance platform that would not only support this technology migration, but would act as the backbone for ensuring data quality, security, and democratization — shifting from a reactive approach to a proactive strategy of governed information assets.
-
Achieve a Customer 360° View that would enable personalized hospitality experiences and data-driven decision-making across the organization.
-
Govern the technology migration from on-premise infrastructure to a hyperscale AWS Cloud architecture, ensuring data continuity and quality throughout the entire transition.
-
Establish a platform guaranteeing data quality, security, and democratization, shifting from reactive management to a proactive strategy of governed information assets.
-
Break the semantic barrier between business and technology: link business metrics directly to the technical transformation processes in the cloud to achieve full end-to-end traceability.
Use case: Data Governance for the Google Analytics 4 Datalakehouse
The deployment was completed successfully through Anjana Data, in partnership with Minsait as the integration partner, validating its versatility with a technically complex, high-value use case: the Governance of the Google Analytics 4 (GA4) Datalakehouse.
This use case enabled end-to-end governance of customers' digital behavioural data, structured across three stages:
Governance of the Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers of the Datalakehouse on AWS S3, where raw and refined GA4 events are stored. Each layer represents a maturity level of the data: from raw capture through to business-ready information available for consumption.
Detailed technical traceability of AWS Glue jobs (ETLs) and their orchestration, transforming technical data into business intelligence. The technical data layer is linked to the visualization and consumption layer in MicroStrategy, enabling reliable analysis of customer behaviour.
Project objectives and achievements
The project stood out for its record-time adoption and deployment, delivering outcomes that typically take months in other organizations. Three major ambitions drove the execution:
-
Accelerated implementation: define and operationalize the governance model and metamodel in a very short timeframe, enabling Paradores to have an operational platform loaded with real assets from the early project phases — with rapid adoption of configuration capabilities by the Minsait integration team.
-
Technical automation: minimize manual effort by configuring mechanisms that automatically capture technical lineage from AWS Glue and S3, faithfully reflecting the infrastructure reality in the governance catalogue without human intervention.
-
Business-to-technology connection: break the semantic barrier by linking business metrics directly to the technical transformation processes (Glue ETLs) and physical tables in S3, achieving complete and auditable end-to-end traceability.
Solution architecture
The implemented solution demonstrates exceptional versatility and a complete modernization of the infrastructure through a Full SaaS deployment, structured around three complementary building blocks:
-
Governance core (Anjana Data Full SaaS): the platform is deployed in a fully SaaS model, eliminating the operational burden of infrastructure management for Paradores and guaranteeing continuous updates and automatic scalability.
-
Native AWS integration (Glue & S3): Anjana Data connects with the AWS Glue Data Catalog for automatic ingestion of technical metadata and with Amazon S3 for governing storage objects, ensuring the catalogue always reflects the real state of the Data Lake.
-
Identity management (Microsoft Entra ID): a robust integration with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) for unified authentication and user management, aligning data governance roles and access policies with Paradores' corporate identities for secure and audited access.
Key benefits
The success of the deployment has generated immediate, tangible benefits that position Paradores as a benchmark for data governance in the tourism industry:
Anjana Data brings together technical lineage (S3 tables, Glue jobs) and functional lineage (Business Terms, KPIs) in a single platform. A business user can navigate from any indicator all the way to the exact cloud process that calculated it — delivering unprecedented data confidence.
Thanks to the intuitive interface and the configuration of an Advanced Business Glossary with organic navigation, Paradores teams adopted the tool quickly — reducing the learning curve and fostering a data-driven culture from day one.
The Full SaaS architecture and the automated metadata capture from AWS Glue have freed the technical team from manual documentation tasks, allowing them to focus entirely on value creation and advanced analytics.
Hurdles overcome
- AWS services (Glue, Step Functions, Athena) were represented in the governance catalogue with sufficient technical depth for data teams while maintaining the conceptual clarity needed for business users.
- Native integration with the AWS Glue Data Catalog enabled technical metadata to be ingested and updated automatically, eliminating manual documentation and ensuring alignment between the live environment and the governance catalogue.
- A technical lineage model was established connecting sources, transformations, and destinations automatically — turning architectural complexity into an analytical advantage.
- With Anjana Data as a strategic ally, the organizational challenge of this paradigm shift is being successfully addressed through agile workflow implementation and the clarity of the role model defined within the platform.
- The intuitive interface and Advanced Business Glossary configuration significantly reduced resistance to change, enabling Paradores teams to embrace governed data culture within the first weeks of use.
